Taipei, Taiwan: A 6.0-size quake shocked Taiwan on Thursday, the US Geological Survey stated, shaking structures and upsetting traffic.

Nearby media said the tremor had been felt everywhere throughout the island and an expressway associating Yilan and Hualien was closed down because of falling rocks. 

The tremor struck at 13:01 pm (0501 GMT) at a profundity of 19 kilometers (11.8 miles) in eastern Hualien region. There were no prompt reports of losses. 

The island's focal climate department put its size at 6.1. 

The Japan Meteorological Agency cautioned individuals living close to the coast could see a few consequences for ocean levels, however said there would be no tidal wave. 

"Because of this seismic tremor, Japan's seaside regions may watch slight changes on the maritime surface, however there is no worry about harm," the organization said. 

Hualien was hit by a 6.4 extent quake a year ago that slaughtered 17 individuals. 

Taiwan lies close to the intersection of two structural plates and is consistently hit by seismic tremors. 

The island's most exceedingly bad tremor in ongoing decades was a 7.6 greatness shake in September 1999 that executed around 2,400 individuals.
